The season for Le Havre AC's reserve team in Régional 1 (R1) presents a notable paradox. While the team failed to contend for promotion to National 3 (N3), it had the satisfaction of seeing half a dozen of its young players make their Ligue 1 debuts. Among them, Enzo Koffi, Noam Obougou, and Kenny Quetant celebrated their first appearances at the highest level, a source of pride for coach Marcel Kalonji and the dean club.

The objective of returning to N3, set by sporting director Mathieu Bodmer in September, was not achieved by Le Havre's rising stars. After a promising first half of the 2025-2026 season, where the "Sky and Navy" were third at the Christmas break, just three points behind leaders FC Saint-Lô, performance significantly declined in 2026. With only three wins, one draw, and four losses, the team now sits in fourth place, 17 points behind the newly promoted FC Saint-Lô.

Marcel Kalonji, the coach of Le Havre AC's reserve team, attributes this drop in form to inconsistencies, lapses in concentration, and a lack of efficiency. He also highlights the squad's rejuvenation in the second half of the championship, with the integration of players born in 2007, 2008, and even Akim Soumahoro, born in 2009, who made an appearance. This strategy of developing young talents is inherent to a football academy.

The Le Havre coach dismisses the idea of a lack of motivation from the young prospects of Le Havre AC. He emphasizes that, even if the ultimate goal is a professional contract and Ligue 1, battling with R1 clubs like Gonfreville, Evreux, or Yvetot remains an essential formative step for these "rookies" seeking experience and progress.

Despite the league results that did not lead to N3 promotion, Marcel Kalonji does not paint a negative picture of this 2025-2026 season. The true success for Le Havre AC lies in its ability to prepare and launch young talents into the first team, thereby ensuring the club's sustainability and competitiveness at the highest level of French football.
